What zoo keepers are doing is intervening with human qualities if a similar scenario happened in the jungle ie an ape is killed in combat or by age would the same attributes occur .Some animals have a close community but we must remember survival of the fittest exists and as such animals have a tendency to carry on with life's chorus.
 
Karl Marx I would say is wrong in that it is human nature  too believe in something since the earliest man we have had burials and cremations and tributes to gods through numerous pagan and Christian beliefs we also have religions showing good and evil as differing places of the after life these have nothing to do with politics until Rome and Greece when the emperors persecuted the Christians .the aspects of a hear after appeals to the masses especially if they have been good through life .
 
David Koresh was a believer in god which resulted in a following and a community being set up there are other similar persons who formed religious groups in America and other countries.
